Liz Green, Mike Dickinson and Eleanor Johnson joined the hundreds of people who converged on Sheffield City centre to take part in the run. The event attracts serious athletes and people from all walks of life looking to raise money for charity, while being involved in a big sporting event. The first run held in 2007 attracted more than 4,000 runners and this year the 10k race proved more popular than ever. Liz, Mike and Eleanor joined the other runners starting on Norfolk Street, and heading down shalesmoor towards the Sheffield Wednesday Football stadium. The return route took them back down Penistone road and up towards the finish line on Arundel gate. Mustapha Mohamed won the race in 29 minutes 10 seconds, but the Pegler Yorkshire trio all managed highly respectable times of just less than one hour. Liz was running for Parkinson’s, Mike for Autism and Eleanor for Prostate Cancer research. A total of £315 was raised, but this was generously matched by Pegler Yorkshire to give the colleagues a grand total of £630. Product market manager Mike Dickinson said, “It was a really enjoyable day and I think we were all pleased with our times. Autism is an issue close to my heart and I know Eleanor and Liz feel the same about their charities, so it is great to have raised some much needed money for such worthy causes.” Business analyst Liz Green said, “It was tough going towards the end, but we had set a target of around the hour mark, so it was nice to achieve what we set out to do.” “Mike, Liz and I would like to thank everyone who was good enough to sponsor us and of course Pegler Yorkshire for doubling the money we raised,” said Eleanor Johnson from marketing services, “Family, friends and work colleagues all got involved and it was a great incentive to have their support on what turned out to be a great day.” Pegler Yorkshire employees have a long history of supporting charitable causes and this year has seen money raised for the Gorilla Organisation, Bluebell Wood and Cancer Research UK to name just a few. “The company is delighted to be matching the money raised by Mike, Liz and Eleanor,” said marketing services manager Mark Westmoreland, “Several employees have taken part in fundraising activities in recent months and Pegler Yorkshire is delighted to help where we can.” |
