Pegler Yorkshire Support Chernobyl Children in Need

One example is the work the company has done with Chernobyl Children in Need (CCIN) over the last few years and is continuing this year by supplying the charity with thirty-two sets of much needed taps. The taps will be used in two toilet blocks in two hamlet schools, one in Hamichi and one in Dodichi. These taps are vital for improving sanitation for many children who live in poverty and who the world seems to have forgotten. The aim of the charity is to offer practical help for Chernobyl’s children, who are still suffering from the effects of radiation caused by the nuclear accident. Over 40% of children in these hamlets still live in immense poverty and continue to suffer illnesses caused by the effects of radiation. The provision of taps is a practical way Pegler Yorkshire can help. It is difficult to believe that 21 years after the accident children are still suffering from the aftermath and surviving in terrible conditions. Global warming, terrorism and other issues have served to push the needs of these people out of sight, but practical help in donating taps and other items can make a big difference to people’s lives. Mark Buxton for CCIN, said, “In donating taps [Pegler Yorkshire] greatly help reduce infections and cross infections which these children are very susceptible to. The taps are a major contributing factor in the improvement of the children’s health. Less infections means less money spent on medicines that the families cannot afford…and also means improved attendance at school.” Pegler Yorkshire Marketing Services Manager Mark Westmoreland said, “We are delighted to be able to help Chernobyl Children in Need again this year. It is great to think that our taps can make a positive impact on children’s lives and we look forward to seeing the charity continuing its vital work in the future.” Chernobyl Children In Need is run solely by volunteers and does not have the financial resources of many of the larger charities. Anyone wishing to help the charity can contact them on 01482 712 602 or email ccin@ccin.karoo.co.uk.
